Surf Gear That’s Actually Worth It

When the swell hits and the wind turns offshore, the last thing you want is to second-guess your board, wetsuit, or fins.

This post kicks off a new chapter on the blog: a hands-on series of gear reviews and guides. I’ll be testing everything in real surf conditions, from mellow beach breaks to heavy reef setups. No paid hype. No sugarcoating. Just honest feedback from someone who spends more time in saltwater than on land.

🏄 What I’m Covering

I’ll be focusing on the essentials that every surfer depends on, whether you’re just starting or have been charging for years.

  • Boards: shortboards, mid-lengths, and foamies

  • Wetsuits: warmth, flexibility, comfort, and value

  • Fins: templates, materials, and when to swap them

  • Accessories: leashes, grip, wax, surf watches, travel bags

I’ll also include guides to help you pick the right gear for your style and local break. Because what works in clean, overhead Indo isn’t always what you need in onshore knee-highs.

🧪 Tested in Real Surf

These reviews won’t come from a showroom. I’m taking this gear into real sessions. That means pre-dawn cold water, long paddles, crowded peaks, hold-downs, and the occasional sketchy reef exit. If it holds up, I’ll let you know. If it fails, I’ll say that too.

If there’s a piece of gear you love or something that didn’t live up to the hype, send it my way. I’ll take a look and maybe feature it in a future post.
